The Triple Hoax book review

The Triple Hoax
by Carolyn Keene
Review by Valerie Harridge

I've always wanted to be a detective and what influenced me into wanting to be a detective was reading the Nancy Drew series.  I was first exposed to it when I was in third grade and I was going through the school library and found the mystery section with the series in it.  I read the first book and I was hooked.  After that I started reading any of the books I could.  To this day I'm still trying to read all of them.

In the The Triple Hoax mystery our heroine, Nancy Drew, gets involved in three mysteries that end up being tied together into one person.  The first one was a scam done to Mrs. Richards who is a friend of her Aunt Eloise Drew.  The second was the kidnapping and ransom of Senora Mendez's granddaughter Delores.  The final hoax was the hoax Nancy plays on the criminals.

The first hoax that gets Nancy on the case is a scam that was done to Mrs. Richards who is a friend of Nancy's Aunt Eloise in New York.  The young detective with the company of some friends head to help this woman.  They come to find out that she had gone to a magic show and that soon after attending it got a phone from a man claiming that he was selling a great round world trip at a too good to be true price.  The victim later found out that is was all a lie and asked for Nancy's help.  Nancy then goes to the magic show and sees what she can learn.  Upon learning that Nancy was investigating them; they pack up and leave town.  They go to Mexico and Nancy with her friends end up following.

While trying to investigate them in Mexico; they find out from a woman who was at one of their magic shows.  That her granddaughter was kidnapped and that the kidnappers wanted money for her safe return.  While this is going on the magic troupe leaves Mexico and head to Los Angeles.  While there Nancy then plays a trick on them and finds out who they really are and where the young girl is.

The Triple Haox is a story of how much bad guys try to trick people, they never get away for very long because someone will start asking questions.  This story is full of adventure and how deduction works to solve a crime.  To find out what happens to young Delores, how the con men are caught, and what Nancy did to catch them you have to read this book.

I reccommend these books to anyone that is looking to start reading mysteries or if they have a daughter that needs a good female fictional role model.  Nancy Drew is a girl that makes any girl think 'I can do that.'
