This book is the sequel to The Alienist. It reunites the original characters with a different type of case to solve. Like the other book it is told from the first person perspective but not from Mr. Moore this time. It is from the point of view of young Stevie.
Like I was saying this one is being told from the perspective of Stevie. It starts out with an older Stevie talking about a bet he made with Mr. Moore about who could write what happened better. It then goes to a flashback of what happened. It is based around the kidnapping of a young girl child that turns into the investigation of a woman who used to be a nurse in a hospital where a lot of babies died on her watch. They end up finding a lot about her and bringing up the subject of women who kill children which in the time the book takes place in is unheard of.
My favorite part of the book is when they go to the suspects family home where she grew up and learned about what she was like growing up. They also learn about what happened to her first child and you hear Dr. Kreizler start making his analysis of her. That I thought was very interesting and intriguing.
I recommend this book for those people who love psychological thrillers and mysteries. If you really like books that has a character that profiles what the killer or criminal is doing this is a nice book. Also if you like stories that take place in the late 19th to early 20 centuries I highly recommend this book to those people as well.
I will post a link to where you can get your own copy of the book on amazon below:
